CATECHESIS

Catechesis is learning the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”   At once they left their nets and followed him.

Mark 1:16-18

Catechesis is the traditional term for “instruction in the faith.” Catechesis at St. John’s ranges from 1-3 years of instruction in the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism, including a practical component of serving during worship as crucifers, torch bearers, and altar servers.

Catechesis provides the foundations of faith, laying the groundwork for connecting the Truth of God’s Word to daily Christian living and discipleship.

Upon completion of catechesis, catechumens have the opportunity to apply to Church Council to receive the rite of confirmation. For more information about confirmation, please click the link below.
